Okay here is the scoop, I ran the updater for Ubuntu this morning, restart was required, now my PASSWORD DOES NOT WORK I error message that the password does not match, so how screwed am I?
I either want back into Ubuntu or my bookmark file so I can use it with Puppy.

I spent a lot of time with Puppy and got into grub and ran disk repair from there I got back to slower than normal boot times however I am typing this from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I hope at this time all is well with this laptop.

Updated an Ubuntu 10.04 box to 12.04 recently. Totally borked. Wouldn't even boot.
Fortunately, it was a development machine, and all the source was in the version control system on the server, so nothing important was lost when I did a clean install, but it has left me less than confident about the Ubuntu upgrade process.

TFD I updated from 10.4 to one of the 11s. The video card was not supported could not tell if it booted or not. I put the drive into this box it worked. However I could not turn on the WiFi card with out winblows. Put the HDD that came with this machine got every thing set so WiFi and the ether-net would both work, then copied 11.x onto the the HDD and all was good. Then 12.4 came out, I waited for a few cycles then upgraded to 12.4 LTE it ran great.
Last night I saw that I had not installed a few security upgrades and decided to have a go at that. Then this morning some more upgrades showed up I ran those and at restart, I got a message that my password was incorrect. Now that can ruin your day, any way I ran puppy to ask the questions and research Ubuntu's site after about three hours of looking I found the method to get to grub and boot into the repair screens.
At this time I have exported my Bookmarks files and if this happens again good bye Ubuntu. As I convert to a Puppy Live box. I have saved my behind so many times with Puppy, it just does not have all of the features of Ubuntu.
