I sure hope somebody has the answer. This is driving me nuts!! [crazy] I have Earthlink broadband ISP. I will get a dialup connection pop up window periodically. If I close it and try to go back to what I am doing, I get another pop up that tells me I have to hit connect to display the page. If this is an "always on" connection, why isn't it "always on"???????????? Thanks for any pointers you can give. The cs at Earthlink is usually great, but I've went through this with them before and the problem keeps happening.

My instincts are telling me this is an Internet Explorer configuration issue. I would either sort that out, or even better, install Firefox and use that instead. Internet Explorer is a security nightmare, and you are way safer using a different web browser.

Yeah methinks IE thinks you have dial up.

Change that in the connections type dialog window (something like "always on internet or LAN connection".

Run the Internet Configuration Wizard (perhaps someone else can tell you exactly how that's done) and then download AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com and make sure you don't have any spyware on your system that has reset some configuration setting. Then, download Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox (I recommend Firefox) from http://www.mozilla.org and use that instead of Internet Explorer.

As mmkk says, click tools, internet options, connection, and click 'run setup wizard'... give it the parameters of your connection, and it should stop that.

I might not have those parts exactly right, since I'm doing this from memory -- I haven't used Windows on a system of my own in many years.
