I have an issue with this school originization Im in. We had a function tonight, and like no one stayed to help cleanup after it (It was a public function that the club put on). Including none of the officers of the club. I am seriously irked by this. Question is, do I go to the advisors of the club on this, talk with the said officers about this, or bring this up at the next meeting for a mass displine (as im technically mad at everyone that belongs to the club that came to the thing)?

As a former officer in a variety of clubs, here's what I'd do:

Give yourself some time to calm down, then plan to address the issue at your next meeting. Say something along the lines of "Thank you for your participation at <insert event>. We're glad so many of you were able to attend. The one drawback to a successful event like this one is the large amount of clean-up required afterward. A special thank you to those of you who stayed late to help clean up. The next time we host an event, please plan on staying to clean up because the <event location> will be in use again in <amount of time>. The more people who help, the faster we'll be finished!"

Say it in a kind voice. Then when you form a committee to plan the next event, make sure you stipulate sign-ups for clean-up so that people for sure (theoretically) will be there to clean.

Everyone should've been as conscientious as you were to stay and clean up, but give them the benefit of the doubt this time. Next time yell at them after having alerted them to the need for helpers. [Smile]

I've had to deal with inept club leaders before.
Is there a faculty advisor for said club who you are familiar with? Most are, in fact, adults, and will understand the situation and may be able to help you talk to the club "leader".

I took a slightly more devious approach. I rallied most of said club against said leader, and come our vote for leadership (next week i think), they will get 0 votes. We were thinking about doing a vote of no confidence, but it isn't that bad.

Why don't you run for a leadership position? Use your anger to formulate reasons why they should be ousted.

In high school and college I never really faced the problem of inept leadership head on (well ok - I did yell at the one HS teacher who was apparently on drugs - but that doesn't count does it?)

My solution was to just do the work and quietly let others know that I had done the work. The next year I was one of those officers and I had a little more of a bully pulpit to get others to pitch in. But I did always end up doing a lot of the work myself <sigh>. After HS one of the teachers told my mom that they thought our class motto should have been "Let Doc-O do it". (and yes that was my HS nickname - but no I don't live in the past at all - I have only seen a few one those people 2 or 3 times in the past 18 years)

Or the other solution (which doesn't work after the fact, of course) is to delegate. Choose a few people, and ask them to organise the cleanup of a certain area, or whatever, mentioning that they can feel free to rope in some help if they need it. Once you have a few people like that organising, they mobilise the remaining ones, and it all gets done as quickly as possible. Everybody wins!

That's where I'm evil and different.

I wouldn't bother to even clean up if everyone else left. I'd be like, "screw it" and leave with them.

Then, the whole club could get chastised for the mess, and the leaders would take the brunt of the blame for not doing their jobs.

I have no intention of overthrowing the leadership. I am well pleased with them. Its just that I want to see some action taken so that it doesnt happen again.

Rhon: No one stayed. So thats kinda pointless.

I have no intention, as said of running for leadership, as its been decided, and im leaving after this year (graduating). Most of the officers are as well, so thats mostly pointless.
