I developed a naming scheme a couple of years back. I decided on a mythological theme as well, centered around items/creatures associated with Odin. I currently have my laptop set as Sleipnir and my cellphone as Gungnir. My desktop predates the system, but will probably become Mimir eventually.

Mine have a druidic/megalithic theme.

Laptop #1: Stonehenge
Laptop #2: Avebury
Desktop#1: Callanish
Desktop#2: Cuzco
iMac: Machu Picchu
Wireless base-station: Nazca
ADSL router: Ley-line

Mrs Druid's iBook doesn't follow that theme, she's (somewhat boringly) just used her name.

I've always named mine with Gaelic female names in incremental alpha-order:

HP 8668C P3/650 :: Aislinn
Custom P3/900 :: Bailey
Inspiron 5100 P4/2.4 :: Ciara
Custom P4/3.0 :: Dara (Bailey rebuilt)

Those, however are all gone now and I just have Flynn--my G5 iMac. She's the best machine I've ever owned... I can't believe I hated on Apple for twenty years! =)

I just refer to my 1st Gen MacBook as a dog... Jumble, that is. I find that having nice, candy-colored wall paper and furry themes (I think Unsanity has a haxie)helps.

Well...my Dad calls his a "fucking God damn piece of shit!" when it won't work like he wants it too. [crazy]

But on the subject of laptop names I've never named mine. And it's been so good to me (well...most of the time) I think it should have one.

I think I shall name my HP Pavilion zv6000....Mac. [Razz]

I called my first box I ever made B#TCH, because that was the best describing word of it's experience. The dang thing still runs to this day though, old 450mhz... runs slackware [Big Grin]

my mac mini is called Zipo, because it kind of like an overgrown zippo mouse pad thingie... I thought it was creative.

My mother's computer was dubbed Zeus for it's lightshow-like tower with neon lights of lightning-bolt style cuts, and because my latest box is superior to hers I called it Cronus to keep the Greek Mythology systems in place.

I had an older box named DoomBox because I was fascinated with Doom when I bought it and played it a lot on that machine, one of my *nix boxes is called Lightstar as a play-on-words of slackware's default server name, I also have a "gig" box as I call it, 1ghz dell dimension with 1gig of ram, 1 gig HDD and gigabit NIC on it, I called it gigaplox. My laptop is called zd8800 because I ahd to remember that model number FOREVER while finding linux drivers for the dang thing. I did find them in the end however. <3

Naming computers is fun.

While I've never named my computers, I have named the hard drives after national parks; They're for preservation, get it?

My secondary internal drive is Yosemite. My external drive is Yellowstone. I have not re-named the original Macintosh HD. Although I'm sure renaming the drive wouldn't affect anything, that paranoid whisper in the back of my mind tells me not to change it!

I suppose that second hard drive in my (future) Mac Pro will be Acadia... or maybe Redwood?

I have two Dell laptops (Latitudes, obviously - wouldn't touch Inspirons with a ten foot pole;) D820 is Tiny, D420 is Fatbastard. The "workyoudamnpieceofjunk" desktop is long gone, and I sure as hell don't miss it.

On a Mac it doesn't change much - but some things do get messed up (depends on the app).

Had one called Big Dusty

Never seen a business computer with so much
dust on it. I was new to the site and the Big
Boss didn't like the name much.

Go Big Dusty go.

I don't find it necessary to name my computer at all, I don't need to further claim it as my own by doing so. It's in my house, I'm the only one that uses it, I'm the only one that has a username on it, therefore it is simply, and always will be, "My Computer" with the occasional "The Computer."

I don't get the whole naming thing, it's like guys and their cars usually being girls...It's interesting, I suppose.

How about "Mr. Flaky"? That certainly matches my MacBook (at least ever since my sister dropped it on the floor 3 times). (BTW, 10 Baht ho? you live in Thailand, too? Hmm...)

I give names to my stuff, issue is that lately i'm getting more geeky in doing that.
My G3 iMac (DV/SE, fyi) is Nanako, based on how it behaves. Being a server, the maid comparison looked right.
Then there is my G4 iBook, 12" that is Mikoto, small, cute but still incredibly powerful.
My Mac Mini (the Core Solo) is Arisa, not aviable in wikipedia. Extremely powerful and lovely, but also a good deal of trouble. I surely hope Leopard will be like Tiger on PPC, more stable....

Finally, my cellphone, a Nokia E61 ended up being Suiseiseki. It's incredibly picky when it comes to wifi connections, makes fun of me (well, that's how it feels anyway) and yet it's somhow amazing. What kinda worried me, is the memory card inside.... that i called like Suiseiseki's artificial spirit(those things give the dolls their powers, eh.) "Jade Stern".

angryjungman - firefly names! i love it!

as for my computer... which sucks.

I callit "compy"

but right now my C drive is called "SBRIAN" short for Steve Brian.. which is some guy who fixed our roof..

The story is.. me and my brother were playing final fantasy crystal chonicles... and we started a new town.. and I yelled at him (cory) "WHAT TO NAME IT!?!?"

and my dad yelled back "STEVE BRIAN!" he thought we asked what his name was.. hahaa..

so we named the FF:CC town SBrian.. and i just randomly name things that now.. hehe ^^

also - my laptops name is Crappy Lappy.. it recently died :x it had windows 95.. 32mb of ram.. (NOT video ram) 1GB HD.. poor thing XD.. I just bought a new lappy off ebay though.. I wonder what i should name it?
